Coca Cola Commercial Songs
75
If you live outside of the U.S., you may have already had the chance to hear the new Coca Cola commercial song based on the song "Whatever" by the group Oasis. The Coke commercial version is enthusiastically sung by a group of young children sitting in a music classroom. The Coke commercial, using the catchy song along with the written message that appears on the screen, is truly upbeat and positive. Another commercial win by Coca Cola! The message on the screen appeared in Spanish where I live (here in Costa Rica). The Coke ad opens up by stating that it is based on a study conducted in 2010. Some of the remaining lines in the ad translate to English as follows:
"For every military tank manufactured....131 million stuffed animals are made."
"For every corrupt individual that exists...8 million people are donating blood."
"For every wall that's raised in the world...200 million people lay out "Welcome" mats."
"The word "love" produces more search results on Google than the word "fear"."
and the ad finally ends with the catchy Coca Cola pitch:
"For every weapon sold in the world...20 million people are sharing a Coca Cola."
If you live in a country where the new Coke commercial is not yet being played, you can preview it from the Youtube link below, and follow along with the lyrics (which are also shown below):
Oasis “Whatever” Lyrics
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I'll sing the blues if I want
I'm free to say whatever I
Whatever I like
If it's wrong or right it's alright
Always seems to me
You only see what people want you to see
How long's it gonna be
Before we get on the bus
And cause no fuss
Get a grip on yourself
It don't cost much
Free to be whatever you
Whatever you say
If it comes my way it's alright
You're free to be wherever you
Wherever you please
You can shoot the breeze if you want
It always seems to me
You only see what people want you to see
How long's it gonna be
Before we get on the bus
And cause no fuss
Get a grip on yourself
It don't cost much
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I'll sing the blues if I want
Here in my mind
You know you might find
Something that you
You thought you once knew
But now it´s all gone
And you know it's no fun
Yeah I know it's no fun
Oh I know it's no fun
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I'll sing the blues if I want
I'm free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I'll sing the blues if I want
Whatever you do
Whatever you say
Yeah I know it's alright
Whatever you do
Whatever you say
Yeah I know it's alright.
Coca Cola In Perfect Harmony
The new Coke commercial song caught my attention because it was the first time I was reminded of Coca Cola's well known "Hilltop" commercial from the 1970's. This older Coke ad used the song "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)". And it, like the new coke commercial song, had a way of getting Coca Cola's advertisement across inoffensively, while at the same time sending a greater message about unity and the positive things in our world. Enjoy the link and lyrics to this well-loved 1971 commercial below.
Teach the World to Sing Song Lyrics
I'd like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love,
Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtle doves.
I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony,
I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company.
[Repeat the last two lines, and in the background:]
It's the real thing, Coke is what the world wants today.

Gotta get out in the world more, don't see enough to get ideas like you do. Today I have two sleeping babies and have read two chapters of business law. Not much there to write a hub about. I remember the old commercial well, but it didn't inspire me to use any coke products. If they can improve the taste of sprite they might win me back. LOL
